    Syllabus
  • Syllabus for CNMS 165-R1
    (updated 12/01/10)

Assignments (you are responsible for completing all assignments regardless of if you were in class or not) please make sure all tasks have been uploaded to the FTP server AND linked to your primary home page. All assignments are done in class except for the ones you need to fill in content for which you need to do outside of class.

  • HTML Tag Reference Study Guide
  • *Please note that tasks 1-5 are due prior to midterm.

  • Lesson 1 Folder Set-up & FTP
This is mandatory and must be done properly so that I can grade your other tasks properly. Please note that each lesson or task after this lesson will loose as much as a point each if lesson 1 has not been done at that point.

  • Task 2 Basic HTML, CSS and Hyperlinks
This assignment needs relevant content added to page. This is your primary home page and must include at least 2 relevant paragraphs about you as well as a place for links to all of your assignments.

  • Assignment Links that need to be listed on your task 2 "primary home page" located in your root folder :
    Task 2
needs to be in your root folder and has to be labeled "index.html", the link for task 2 needs to link to itself.
You do not need a link for task 3.
Task 4 needs to link to "task4/index.html" index.html being the home page of task 4 NOT your primary home page.
Task 5 should link to the pages you applied your images to in task 4 so this may mean you need to have multiple links for task 5.
Task 6 needs to link to "task6/index.html" index.html being the home page of task 6 NOT your primary home page.
Lesson 7 does not require a link.
Lesson 8 needs to link to "task8/index.shtml" note change in extension as this is required for SSI on my server, you also will be creating a template.html document as well as a header and footer document for this task.
Task 9 needs to link to either the contact page of task 6 or task 8 whichever you prefer as long as it works, for example, "task6/contact.html".
Lesson 10 does not require a link and will be done in class, if you are not in class for this assignment you need to let me know where you placed your meta tags so that I can check them and grade you for this assignment.

  • Task 3 Creating an Interactive Image Map
This task is a companion task to task 4 so please make sure you have done it if you are not in class for it.
  • Task 3 example image (can only be used in class, you must come up with a layered Photoshop file to get credit for this task)
    (due 3/11/2010)

  • Task 4 Developing a Basic Web site with CSS and Tables
This assignment needs relevant content added to each page to get full credit. (due 3/11/2010)

  • Task 5 Working with Images
task 5 zipped images (may or may not be used w/task)
Image PSD to be used for rollovers if you can't find yours
Steps for creating rollovers (due 3/11/2010)

*Please note that tasks 3-5 are due next week prior to midterm.

  • Task 6 Interface Design & Development
This assignment needs relevant content added to each page to get full credit.
  • Task 6 interface (Photoshop document for in class use only, your file must be significantly altered to get full credit for this task)
We will be using this document in class, however, you are expected to significantly change the interface or make a new one for task 6, please see task 6 for more details.
  • Task 6 outer table code (.txt file)

  • Lesson 7 Integrating DreamWeaver Behaviors (JavaScript) and Spry Elements (we will be doing this in class if time permits, we have done part of it with rollover buttons plus we will be doing form validation)
  • Link to The Clambake Site for JavaScript (Drop Downs, fading slide show, "go to URL", etc.)

  • Lesson 8 Server Side Includes will not have time this semester:
(if you were not in class for this then you are responsible for completing it on your own, ask a student or come see me)

  • Task 9 CGI and Forms (this task will be done entirely in class and will consist of creating a form with at least the following: name, address, phone, how did you hear drop-down menu, comment field, submit button and form validation which is found under behaviors and applied to the submit button, use your contact us page on task 6 or task 8 for this. If you use task 8 you will have to put it on the template page first and then update your header document since you can't edit the head section of your document when you break it into SSI.

  • Lesson 10 Optimizing your site for Search Engines (this task will be done entirely in class and will consist of placing meta tags on your web site, making sure title, keywords and description tags match content on your web site, we will be using the SSI task for this or your completed task 6).

Here is a link to an eBook I put together on SEO, metalanguage and driving traffic to and generating income from your site.
