Topics

 

Please choose a topic (do not begin your project until you have gotten a confirmation from me, there are 18 topics, I am allowing up to two students to take a topic and topics are on a first come, first serve basis so I may have to assign a topic to you.) Please be sure to fill out all your choices:

 

  1. Building a PC (go through the steps it would take to build your own PC)
  2. Building a Portfolio Website (steps involved including design considerations, hosting, etc. This is a how-to not an actual portfolio website)
  3. Designing a Magazine or Newspaper (What it would take to design and promote a magazine from the ground up)
  4. Starting an online business (create a simple web site and make up a name for a service or product that you would like to sell online then go through the steps involved in starting your own on-line business)
  5. Building a Home or Corporate Network (Go through the basic steps of setting up a network)
  6. Shooting a Film  (Go through the basic steps of how you would go about shooting a small film)
  7. Wireless Communications (Discuss the history and equipment of wireless communications focusing on Bluetooth technology, include cell phone and wireless networking)
  8. Printer Technology (review and display various printers and how they work such as Inkjet, Laser, continuous tone, dot matrix and new printer technologies such as 3D)
  9. Computer Monitor Technology (review and display various monitors and how they work such as CRT, LCD, DLP and Plasma)
  10.  Input & Output Devices (review and display various input and output devices and the basics of how they work, pick at least 3 different devices)
  11. Gaming Technology (review different aspects of the gaming industry, pick at least one aspect: game construction, programming and design or how gaming devices work such as the X-box or Playstation)
  12. Digital Art (discuss and display examples and go through the basic process of how to create digital art, list programs and tools of the digital artist)
  13. Digital Sound Reproduction (discuss techniques, software and tools of the digital sound designer, include some examples or perhaps you could try your hand at creating some of your own by self-teaching yourself SoundForge that is on the Media Lab computers)
  14. 3D Design (discuss techniques, uses, software and tools of the trade, include some examples of 3D art and perhaps or perhaps you could try your hand at creating some of your own by self-teaching yourself 3D Studio Max which is on the Media Lab computers, this is a very difficult program to learn so I would understand if you didn’t do that)
  15. Video Editing, Creation and Reproduction (discuss techniques, software and tools of the digital videographer)
  16. Graphic Design Software (pick a particular graphic design package such as Adobe’s Creative Suite, Corel’s Graphic programs or Macromedia’s MX Suite of programs and discuss how you might use one of them to create a pet project)
  17. Multimedia Design Software (pick a particular multimedia program and discuss how you would use it to create a pet project, discuss Flash, Director, or PowerPoint)
  18. Final Cut Pro vs Adobe Premiere (discuss the pros and cons of using these industry standard video editing programs)

Please choose a multimedia type:

HTML Web Site (must be at least 5 pages long—includes bibliography page and link—and include text and graphics, all hyperlinks must work to get full credit. A full web page, in this instance is considered at least 1 scroll lengths on a monitor that is set to 1024 x 768. If you choose this option it is important that your presentation is clear, artisitc and a good balance between text and images, you may use Flash if you wish.). Again, it is crucial that the same amount of content that you would include in the PowerPoint Presentation below should be included here. The site structure is important to so make sure any images you have included is inside an images folder and that the home page which you must have is labeled "index.html" so that is is clear which page is the starting point. Each page should be labeled logically. All pages must link together.

PowerPoint Presentation (must contain at least 20 slides and include a good balance of text and graphics. This assignment cannot be a copy of assignment #2 if you chose networking as your project).

Projects are graded on originality, accuracy of content, aesthetics and functionality. All projects must list resources on a bibliography page/slide in the standard MLA format and you must cite at least 5 resources using the Web and/or books. If you use the Computer Concepts 10 book you must include page numbers with your bibliography.

 

Grading: 15 points total

5 points for form submission and staying true to your submitted choice

5 points for project aesthetics, originality and functionality

5 points for accuracy of information and inclusion of bibliography

 

Time permitting, you will be presenting these in class.
