CNMS 120 Digital Imaging Basics
TASK ONE
1) Using Windows Explorer, create a folder inside your department folder and label it ‘CNMS 120’ then create sub-folders within it for each of your tasks (1 through 6) and a final project folder, do not create a folder for your midterm. You may also create an extra credit folder if you wish. Notice: Until we get network access please use a flash or thumb drive to store your files and bring it back and forth with you each week. I will have you use DreamWeaver to upload your files to the submissions folder on my server.
2) Using the Internet, find three websites (other than adobe.com) that either contains Photoshop tutorials or a gallery of images created using PhotoShop. Save the URL’s exactly as they appear in the address bar of your browser and paste them into a Word Document and save the file as tutorials.doc inside your task 1 folder that is inside your CNMS 120 folder.
3) Find 3 images in print (magazine, newspaper etc…) that are ads and that have utilized Photoshop. Using the knowledge you have so far about digital imaging and graphics software write out an explanation of what you think has been done to graphically alter/enhance the images using Photoshop. Please type a short paragraph for each image. Print these pages out and put them together with a title page that includes your name and the title of this task inside a clear plastic folder you would purchase at Wal Mart or Target and turn it in. I will not accept any tasks that are not presented in this manner.
4) In addition to finding these print ads, create an image in PhotoShop using the tools that you have learned about so far. Don’t worry….this task is for your practice. Work with PhotoShop and be curious. Keep asking yourself “What happens if I do this?” especially when it comes to layer properties and styles. For example, what happens when you change the layer mode to darken or overlay and then duplicate layers and play around with them. Work with your own photographs or images you have found on-line. Save this as yourLastNameTask1.psd and place it in your task1 folder.
