The following
is a list of Web sites belonging to students in the Communications and New Media
program at Southern Maine Community
College. Please click on a link
and you will be taken to that student's home page (students please
note that the link listed should go to your general home page inside
your root or public folder, this page needs to link ALL your tasks and projects,
I also have a Web site that I will update every week with lessons
and examples done in class).
Fall 2009 Student List, your email for the semester is the same as your FTP login.

Note to Students
Students, please note that all folders use your last name, all lower
case letters (the exception to this rule are duplicate names, in
which case the first letter of the last name will be used in addition
to the last name, no spaces) and your initial home page, located
inside your root folder, is index.html (this file must stay the same). Each site that you create will also have its own home page and should not be confused with this initial starting home page. All tasks and your final project need to be uploaded to your folder on this server and a link must be created on this initial starting home page.
All PhotoShop documents need to be saved in your "PSD" folder located in the "above public" space located in the folder that contains your root folder (your last name folder). This is to assure that large PhotoShop files are not uploaded to the server but they need to be saved to your folder on the "Z" drive so that they can be graded.
You can access your site by clicking on one of the links above.
Please see your initial home page for FTP info. Your first assignment is to save this page as an info.html page and replace the information on your initial home page with 2 paragraphs about yourself, a favorite image no bigger than 400 pixels wide and active links to future tasks and your final project using a "#" sign in place of the actual link. It will be your responsibility to update this link once you have finished a task or completed your final project. You may complete tasks early but they can't be more than two weeks late past the due date to receive any credit (five points are taken off for each day late).
Images and Files
All images that are uploaded should be used on a web page or web pages and should be in the form of .jpg or .gif, you may also upload .pdf, and .doc files if necessary. Do not upload .psd files, any .psd files you use need to be properly labeled and placed in a PSD folder above your public folder on the school server to avoid uploading these large files.
File structure and management is very important in web design and development so I expect everyone to keep their folders neat and orderly and most of all consistent. Any files you intend to upload to the Web need to be contained within your public folder which you must point Dreamweaver to (manage sites). You need to keep any images you link to or embed in a folder labeled images, all style sheets need to be kept in a folder labeled css and misc. files should be kept in a folder labeled data, this is an industry standard. |
